Zotero - Research and Citation Manager

Firefox users can download an add-on called Zotero that will manage all of your research and allow you to create MLA, APA, and Chicago style citations. It's easy to use and the Web site has a demo movie that explains how it works.

Zotero is not without its faults, but if you want an inexpensive way to manage your citations, then Zotero is a good choice.

Citation Help

Some databases try to help you cite the article.

What they do well:

  • Put all of the information you need in basically the correct order.
  • Providing a citation that will satisfy faculty who don't care if the format is perfect but do care that all of the information is there and that the students are making a faithful effort to attribute others' work.

What they do poorly:

  • Provide too much information in some cases.
  • Provide information in strange formats (TITLES IN ALL CAPS, names don't have enough initials, etc.)
  • Not necessarily up-to-date with the most current editions of MLA and APA.
  • Help students who are going on to graduate work or whose instructors are adamant about adherence to style guide rules.

For citations, you can click on this icon  or the parentheses symbol.

You can also email an article and/or citation to yourself!
