UMA Libraries' OER Resources by Subject

OER Honorarium Program & Student Savings

Thanks to receiving Presidential Mini-Grants over the past two years, UMA Libraries has been able to award faculty participants the chance to work with Librarians and Learning Experience Designers (LXDs) to transition one of their courses to using Open Educational Resources (OER) rather than a traditional textbook. Upon completion of the program, the faculty member earns a $500 honorarium.

*Data is derived from the OER Honorarium Program applications. Data is based on the average cost of current course materials per student x average student enrollment. The total may be lower/higher depending on OER adoption and the number of course sections.

Testimonials from Faculty and Students

"Thank you, Cynthia, Donna, and Jessica! This was great—I learned a lot, and I'm really enjoying my course this semester." -English faculty

"The positive affects of the open educational materials for this course is the fact that I do not have the extra cost of a textbook. Also that I do not have to remember to grab my book knowing that it is all on the internet." -COM 102 student

"Not having to worry about a subscription ending on an online textbook or getting the textbook in print off of Amazon was just another thing I didn't have to worry about. When I'm not stressing over completing tasks like that, I can completely focus my energy towards my schoolwork." -ENG 101 student

"They [Librarians & LXD) were very proactive in finding types of resources as well as specific resources. Also, I wasn't quite sure initially where I wanted to go with this course update, and they were very helpful brainstorming ideas with me that would fit into my specific class." -Psychology faculty
