Katz Library has scores and CDs available for check-out.

Music scores check-out for 4 weeks.

Music CDs check-out for 2 weeks. CDs may be browsed in the reference area shelving; the actual CDs are located behind the Circulation Desk.

Searching for Music in the Libraries

Outline for Music-related Classification System

At UMA we use the Library of Congress (LC) classification system. The system uses both letters and numbers to organize books and music by topic or subject, and the categories related to Music are:

M = Music (Printed scores and sheet music)

ML = Literature on Music (Musicology, biographies of musicians, etc.)

MT = Instruction and Study (Music theory and methods, practice guides, etc.)

 

URSUS Music Searching Tips

  1. In URSUS, click on the Advanced Keyword tab.

  2. Next to "Material Type", change the drop-down menu from "ANY" to "SOUND, MUSIC"

  3. To limit to recordings at UMA, change the "Limit to" menu from "Search Entire URSUS Catalog" to "University of Maine at Augusta".

  4. Type keywords into the search boxes.

Keyword examples:

  • things ain't what they used to be

  • haden, charlie

  • Jazz 1991-2000

 

Aebersold play-along music with CDs 

The Katz library owns a majority of the Jamey Aebersold Play-Along books.

The are located in the books stacks at call number MT68 .A43.  The books and play-along CD's may be checked out for one week.
