Recommended websites for architecture resources

These websites provide a variety of helpful information from general architecture podcasts, to information on green building codes. Tab through the different categories to see the recommended websites. If you can't find what you're looking for, reach out to the library.

ARCHITALX The mission of Architalx is to broaden awareness and understanding of architecture, landscape architecture and design by sponsoring lectures that foster evocative and creative dialogue within the design community and with the general public. Our goal is to enrich our community by gathering speakers from across the globe to bring world-class ideas and design to Maine. All lectures are recorded and available on the website.
Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture ACSA provides venues for international peer review and recognition in the form of scholarly journals, conferences, awards, and student design competitions. We provide intelligence and insight for our members through data collection and analysis, and we work to enhance teaching and research across the discipline through our volunteer members and often in partnership with peer organizations in education and practice around the world.
Archinect Archinect was initially developed in 1997 by Paul Petrunia. The site has since become a top online destination for progressive-design oriented students, architects, educators, and fans.
National Architectural Accrediting Board As established by the Collateral Organizations (ACSA, AIA, AIAS, and NCARB) that have funded the organization since 1940, NAAB provides accreditation services and oversight to ensure architecture programs meet key quality assurance responsibilities.
National Council of Architectural Registration Boards Site includes free practice exams for Architect Registration Exams.
Maine Chapter of the American Institute of Architects The Maine AIA hosts events and webinars. Their website also has a job board and other resources.
Danish Architecture Center A Copenhagen-based organization that hosts exhibits and events. Their website also has a database of buildings, a podcast, and other resources.
Architectural Record An editorial mix of design ideas and trends, building science, business and professional strategies, exploration of key issues, news products and computer-aided practice.
Architectural Digest YouTube Channel Features city tours conducted by architects and tours of different homes.

Society of Architectural History The professional organization for Architectural Historians
National Trust for Historic Preservation For more than 70 years, the National Trust for Historic Preservation has led the movement to save America’s historic places. A privately funded nonprofit organization that works to save America's historic sites
The Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) and the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) Collections These collections are among the largest and most heavily used in the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress. The collections document achievements in architecture, engineering, and landscape design in the United States and its territories through a comprehensive range of building types, engineering technologies, and landscapes, including examples as diverse as the Pueblo of Acoma, houses, windmills, one-room schools, the Golden Gate Bridge, and buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
National Park Services Technical Preservation Serices Technical Preservation Services develops historic preservation standards and guidance on preserving and rehabilitating historic buildings, administers the Federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentives program for rehabilitating historic buildings, and sets the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
Vernacular Architecture Forum The Vernacular Architecture Forum is the premier organization in North America studying ordinary buildings and landscapes. It was established in 1979 to promote appreciation and scholarship of vernacular structures. VAF is an interdisciplinary organization composed of scholars from many fields, including history, architectural history, geography, anthropology, sociology, landscape history, historic preservation, and material culture studies.

U.S. Green Building Coucil Organizes and promotes LEED certification for new buildings. LEED provides a framework for healthy, efficient, carbon and cost-saving green buildings. LEED certification is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement, and it is backed by an entire industry of committed organizations and individuals paving the way for market transformation.
