Getting Started

This section will help you begin your education research with confidence. Start by choosing a focused topic that interests you: something connected to teaching, learning, or education issues you’d like to explore further. Once you have a topic, identify key concepts and keywords to use when searching library databases like ERIC or Education Source.

Use tools such as UMA’s library catalog, Google Scholar, or subject databases to find books, articles, and research studies. Don't forget to keep track of your sources and notes as you go! Citation managers like Zotero or a simple document can help you stay organized.

If you’re unsure where to begin, try starting with reference materials or review articles to get background information and discover key authors and topics in your area of interest. Make note of any keywords that might be relevant to your research, and try different combinations of keywords and utilize search filters to narrow down your results.
