Free for All: The Public Library

Join UMA Libraries and Lithgow Public Library for a free screening of the PBS Independent Lens documentary, Free for All: The Public Library. Free for All: The Public Library tells the story of the quiet revolutionaries who made a simple idea happen. From the pioneering women behind the “Free Library Movement” to today's librarians who service the public despite working in a contentious age of closures and book bans, meet those who created a civic institution where everything is free and the doors are open to all.

  • When: Tuesday, April 8, 5:00 – 7:00 pm
  • Where: Farber Forum

This event is open to anyone who wants to attend (all students, faculty, staff, and the general public).

We Want the Funk

We Want the Funk screening and panel discussion with UMA's Music Dept. We Want the Funk is a syncopated voyage through the history of funk music, spanning from African, soul, and early jazz roots, to its rise into the public consciousness. Featuring James Brown’s dynamism, the extraterrestrial funk of George Clinton’s Parliament Funkadelic, transformed girl group Labelle, and Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat, the story also traces funk’s influences on both new wave and hip-hop.

  • When: Tuesday, April 15, 12:00 – 1:30 pm
  • Where: TBD

This event is open to anyone who wants to attend (all students, faculty, staff, and the general public).
